Yesterday Brenda and I attended the Arizona Open Bodybuilding, Fitness & Figure show at the Mesa Arts Center. It was the first time for both of us attending one of those shows. They had GREAT competitors! I hear it was one of the biggest shows AZ has had in a while… over 200 competitors! wow! We were there for almost 4 hours and we even missed some of divisions. We were surprised at the quality of the show and venue. Everything was done very classy and professional.
The figure ladies looked so glamorous and beautiful! They have some of the best bodies I have ever seen. The age ranges were from teens to late 40s…I would not be surprised if there were women in their 50s. This goes to show you that being fit is not an “young” thing. Age is not an excuse for letting yourself go.
Sooo, I went to this show to see if it’s something I truly want to do. I’ve had this bug for over a year now so I had to make a decision soon whether I want to compete or not. After seeing these ladies on stage I was very inspired and decided to compete next year!!! Now I have one year to prepare for it so it means I have to get really serious in the gym to be able to look the part. The good thing is that I have a wonderful trainer already (Paul of course) so I’m sure he will help me develop the kind of body that will help me succeed. People already ask me if I’m a competitor and they’re surprised when I tell them no so this means that Paul and I are doing something right in the gym.
Here is a photo of a professional competitor that I aspire to look like. She’s very tall like me (is harder to put on muscle on tall bodies) so if I look half of what she looks like on stage, I’ll be in a good place lol!. Now you must know that competitors don’t look like this all the time. This look is only achieved for one or two days max. To get to this point they go thru weeks of dieting, and on the last week before the show they do carbs and water manipulation on their bodies so that their muscles look full and hard on peak day. It’s a science that fascinates me to say the least.
I will share with you later my journey to the stage and what I have to do to get there. For now, Brenda has volunteer to help add bling to the sparkly bikini I have to wear next year hehe! I’m so excited!!!
