Tequila Sunrise Reimagined

This Tequila Sunrise is made with a unique blend of flavors that are not used in the typical version. We’re taking it back to its original roots but with a twist!

It finally happened, I managed to make a recipe, take photos of it & started to write this blog post! There is no doubt that once you stop doing something, it’s harder to get back to it once you’re out of the groove. Honestly, 2016 was extremely hard on me and I just needed a break from all the expectations that writing a blog brings (I won’t go into details on that since I don’t want to bore you:)). While I never intended to take such a long break, the time really went fast and here we are, writing my second blog post for 2017…. at the end of the year:)

This year I focused on enjoying our new home, spending quality time with my husband, family & friends. I also had to learn to garden since I want to build the garden of my dreams with my own hands!! I’m a “doer” so this is something I have to do on my own and not rely on landscapers to dig holes and plant everything I want. This is actually my first year of planting anything! Before, I used to kill any plant I set my eyes on but now I feel confident that I can keep plants alive longer than a few months lol!

I’m learning to build good soil organically, the best spot for specific plants (do they like shade? full sun? morning sun but afternoon shade?), how much water each plant needs? This is hard I tell ya! But I’m not giving up!

Gardening consumed a lot of my time but I have everything under control now and the garden does not look like a chaotic mess! I finally have the time to balance my life with some of the other things I love to do e.g. take pretty photos of food and write occasional blog posts like this one :).

Let me tell you more about how this drink recipe came about.  We are big tequila drinkers in our household so we’re always looking for good tequila drinks.  Most people are familiar with the Tequila Sunrise made with orange juice and grenadine.  Our recipe finds its roots right here in Arizona!  A bartender at the famous Arizona Biltmore came up with it in the 1930’s at the request of a frequent guest asking for a refreshing tequila drink.  The orange juice and grenadine recipe didn’t come along until the 70’s.  We thought the Biltmore recipe was too tart so we experimented and came up with our own.  The difference is we added less lime, a touch of fresh orange juice, triple sec and simple syrup.  The result, in our humble opinion, is a great blend of flavors.  Delish!

Happy New Year everyone!!
